Planting a seed…
Out in the field one day of the 2024 growing season and I already have a farmer’s tan, a very strange farmer’s tan. I’ll plan on wearing pants the next day in the field. A tan from below the shorts to the upper calf where my boots stop isn’t cute! Quite sore from prepping the beds and sowing seeds. But — I cannot tell you the joy I had as I was working in the field getting my hands dirty. There is something about physical work that feels so purposeful to me and brings out a deep sense of gratitude for all I’ve been blessed with.
While I had a lot of help getting the field prepped and ready, I sowed each little seed by myself. Not quite ready to ask for help there. Not out of lack of trust, but as I was planting each little seed, I was planting a step of faith. I stayed out there until the sun had faded and woke before the sun rose ready to continue. We almost finished the first round of seeds before the rain, but will finish planting as soon as the ground is dry enough to plant.
There has been so much planning and preparation up until seed-sowing day. I’ve read more articles and listened to more podcasts than I can count. One podcast was an hour and a half that discussed nothing but soil — and I loved it! There is still much to learn, much to do, and much to enjoy and experience. I cannot wait to watch these seeds planted grow into something beautiful.
